Course Information

In Key Stage 3 Languages we strive to foster an interest in and understanding of other cultures in the world. Students are encouraged to express themselves in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. They are encouraged to use the target language spontaneously in the classroom and are taught to read authentic texts, to transcribe and translate.

In Year 7, students are introduced to French as a Modern Foreign Language. The highest achieving students are then given opportunity to additionally study Spanish in Year 8, with a look to be offered both at GCSE.

Extra Curricular Opportunities

Students are encouraged to pursue their language learning both in and out of the classroom. There are many online resources which students can access to further improve their language skills. The advantage of these is that they offer immediate feedback to the learner. Some examples of these are www.quizlet.comwww.linguascope.com and www.duolingo.com

Assessment

Students are assessed on their learning each half-term. Vocabulary is set as homework and tested once a fortnight to encourage students to memorise words and phrases covered.
