Staff at Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth are delighted with the results achieved by students in 2024. The school is celebrating its best ever GCSE results; results which accurately reflect the drive, determination and talent of this group of students and the support they have received.

As a truly inclusive school, staff at AGS are particularly pleased to see every student in Year 11 achieve GCSE grades and are thrilled to report that students of all abilities, and with a range of life stories to tell, have done very well. The gender gap, which is apparent nationally, is also very small at AGS, with boys as well as girls achieving well across a wide range of subjects.

Headteacher, Malcolm Kelly, commented:

“These are a wonderful set of results for a special group of young people. This Year group have contributed so much during their time with us and have approached their learning in a very impressive way. The results achieved by this group of young people constitute the best ever for AGS in the era of reformed GCSE qualifications and Progress 8. AGS is normally one of the top performing schools in Derbyshire. These results should see us replicate that this year.”

“They are an accurate reflection on the students who worked so hard to achieve them and on the quality of support these young people have been given along the way. With most of these students remaining at AGS and joining our Sixth Form, we will be able to continue to work closely with this group of outstanding young people. We wish all of our students well in the range of pathways they now take, and are confident that they will go on to achieve even more in the future. We couldn’t be prouder of them!”
