The school receives a core fund from the Department for Education which is calculated by a National Funding Formula. In addition to this, schools receive extra financial support which is aimed at improving educational outcomes and addressing disparities.  Anthony Gell School receives the following additional funding:

Pupil Premium

This is additional funding for disadvantaged students to enhance educational outcomes.  The Pupil Premium value is funded through number of students eligible for Free School Meals as well as the number of students previously looked after by a Local Authority, including those adopted from care.  There is also a Service Pupil Premium which supports students from service families.

Check if you are eligible for Pupil Premium Funding. This will allow school to receive an additional budget for your student. From 1st September 2026 all families on Universal Credit will get Free School Meals no matter how much they earn. Please use the link to check eligibility.

Anthony Gell School uses a Pupil Premium Strategy to determine how the funding is used within school. The strategy is split into three sections; Teaching, targeted support and wider strategies. It is evaluated and re-published on an annual basis.

This is an initiative to support students in Sixth Form who face financial barriers to continuing their education.  It provides financial support for essential costs relating to attendance such as travel, meals and necessary resources and equipment.  There are two types of Bursary; Vulnerable or Discretionary.  Please see the page in the Sixth Form Section for further information and eligibility.

16-19 Tuition Fund

The funding is to support small group tuition for students aged 16 to 19 who have not achieved grade 4 or above in English and/or Maths. The funding is used to support tuition activity above and beyond the programmes of education already planned. Anthony Gell provide timetabled lessons for students resitting exams within our Sixth Form offer. Funding contributes to the staffing of these lesson. Students receive one or two one-hour lessons a week, until they obtain a Grade 4 or above and will continue into Year 13 if necessary.
