Anthony Gell School

Welcome from mr kelly

We have been unable to host our popular open evening in school this year due to our safety rules for COVID-19.  Instead, we have collated a few helpful resources, which include a couple of short videos, to allow you to meet some of us and show you around our school.

We are very proud of our students and celebrate with them their many achievements. Our hard-working and dedicated team of staff support the varied learning opportunities and facilitate high quality teaching and learning. We are a smaller than average secondary school who cater for children and young people with a wide range of backgrounds, talents and aspirations. Our inclusive practice means that the appropriate support is available for all.

Rather than ask a marketing company to produce a video for us to share with you, we preferred to involve our staff and students in creating something which is much more personal. The videos you will have access to in this part of our website have been made by staff and students in school during the last couple of weeks.

We are a very popular choice for families, with parents and carers valuing our approach. The outstanding level of pastoral care, which has been a strong feature of AGS for a long time, is complimented by high standards in and out of the classrooms and learning spaces. Our students benefit from being able to participate in a very wide range of subjects and enjoy expanding their horizons as they are guided through their learning. Our curriculum is enhanced further by an outstanding range of extra-curricular activities.

Our expectations are high as we encourage everyone to strive to be the best they can be. We work hard to achieve our personal goals and we support one another as they achieve theirs.

The results at GCSE and A level in recent years show AGS as one of the best performing schools in Derbyshire and in the top 25% of schools nationally.

Children who join AGS, quickly make new friends and settle into their learning. They begin to appreciate why AGS is such a special place to grow and to learn and quickly feel part of this excellent school. Our detailed programme of transition means that students are well-supported in the lead up to, during and after the move into our school.

I hope the information we have provided in this section of our website and as part of our 2020 'virtual' open evening, helps you to make an informed choice about your childs secondary school.

We enjoy speaking with and helping parents/carers, so if you have any questions please email
